The laptop has a hybrid graphics system - an Intel HD chipset, which uses less power, and the Nvidia 425, which uses more power but gives you full Anti-aliasing and such. However, on the laptop, I am now able to get it to start up in DX11 mode, which it did NOT before, though there is some odd behavior / artifacts on the intro screen with the old man (thin green bar along the bottom) and jerky movement of the leader animations that do not appear on the GTX 460. On both the GTX 460 and the mobile 425 chip on my laptop, the game now crashes at times, which it did not before. That said, with more detailed testing of a specific title, Civilization V, I have been having a bit of mixed luck.

I'm going back to 266.58 and forgetting that these 270.61 drivers ever came out. Locking up in games that never locked up with 266.58. My recommendation is to stick with 266.58 unless you have a specific need to go higher (newer, unsupported card for example). 1280x720 looks pretty pixelated when stretched all the way to edges of a 30 inch LCD. Thankfully, 1920x1080 does not, so the game plays / looks normal when playing and recording for YouTube upload with Fraps. On a SyncMaster 305t, 800圆00, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x7x800 resolutions all stretch full screen regardless of the setting in the driver. They do have some interface improvements, such as for the scaling options, which are nice, so I have given it a 2 instead of a 1, but sadly, the drivers still do not seem to be able to force 1:1 scaling in all modes on all monitors. Two mobile (425m and 580m) and two desktop (460 and 580) and have found that the 266.58 drivers simply work the most reliably.Įvery version past that, even with the new MSI 3 Gigabyte GTX 580 that I had saved up for and finally gotten, seems to have stability issues.Ģ85.62 WHQL and 285.79 Beta in particular have introduced some crashes in games not previously having problems. I have been testing these drivers on a variety of chipsets under Windows 7 64 bit.

If it's the stock driver from windows, right click on the video card in device manager and select "uninstall". Here's what you need to do for windows 8 install:ġ.) Had to cold poweroff by holding down the power button a few seconds.Īpparently the black screen is caused by windowsupdate installing the stock driver in the background, and this conflicts with the new driver being installed. For my 9xxx series video card, I get a black screen after install in Windows 8 32-bit. Unfortunately this beta is not a good release, at least for my 9xxx series desktop card.
